Three Penn German grad students have been awarded fellowships for conducting research in Germany over the summer and next year.

Leif Weatherby, a grad student in the Program of Comparative Literature, has been awarded a Fulbright Graduate Research Fellowship to spend the academic year in Berlin conducting research for his dissertation.

Matt Handelman has been awarded an Udo-Keller-Stipendium and a DAAD Graduate Fellowship for the summer and academic year. He will spend the summer at the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach, researching German-Jewish intellectual culture in 1920s Frankfurt. Then, he will spend the academic year 2011/12 in Frankfurt conducting his dissertation research. 

 

Melanie Adley has been awarded the Phyllis Rackin Fellowship for the upcoming summer, awarded by the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program and the Alice Paul Center for Research on Gender, Sexuality, and Women. The fellowship was created in honor of Phyllis Rackin, a pioneering feminist scholar and former faculty member in the English Department here at Penn. The fellowship provides $2000 in summer research or travel funding to a graduate student in the School of Arts and Sciences whose research creates or promotes new scholarship on women, gender, and/or sexuality in the humanities.
